Aug. 4

Corsicana Masonic Lodge will have a stated meeting at 7:30 p.m. A meal will be served starting at 6:30 p.m. for the district deputy’s visit. All master masons are invited.



The City of Blooming Grove will hold its monthly city council meeting at 7:30 p.m. at city hall, 200 S. Fordyce St., Blooming Grove.



Warehouse Living Arts Center Theatre, 119 W. Sixth Ave., will hold auditions at 6:30 p.m. for “Moonlight and Magnolias” by Ron Hutchison. The cast calls for three adult men (age 30s to 50s) and one adult woman (age late teens to 40s). Those who plan to audition should bring date books, school and vacation schedules. Aug. 7

The American Red Cross is teaming up with 3M and Roush Fenway Racing to launch Red Cross Racing, a campaign to engage NASCAR fans as blood donors and to raise awareness about the ongoing need for blood. Race to your local blood drive from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Navarro Shriner’s Building to give blood. Call 1-800-GIVE LIFE (1-800-448-3543) to schedule an appointment. Race into the blood drive and receive a NASCAR lanyard. Please bring your donor card or photo ID.

Blooming Grove Junior High School will have sixth grade orientation at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. All incoming sixth graders and their parents are encouraged to attend. Principal Doyle Bell will go over the handbook with special emphasis on rules and dress code. He will discuss the daily bell schedule and the altered schedule to accommodate pep rallies. The calendar for the year will be available with the TAKS testing dates highlighted. Any questions that parents and students may have may be addressed to Bell or counselor Evelyn Beard.

The Legionnaires’ monthly meeting will be held at 1 p.m. at the American Legion Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St. To attend the meeting, membership must be current. For more information, call after 2 p.m. to (903) 874-3938.



Be one of the first kindergarten to fifth grade students to stop by your school’s booth at the Back to School/Stay in School Rally at Fullerton-Garitty Park, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., to receive a free bicycle helmet and safety tips. A bicycle helmet can prevent up to 85 percent of head injuries. Local physicians want to help children in Corsicana start riding more safely by giving them a free helmet. The giveaway will be sponsored by the BTS/SIS Rally in conjunction with the Texas Medical Association and the TMA Foundation. For more information, contact E. Burrell at (903) 874-2821.

Woodmen of the World Lodge 5 will have a meeting and pot luck at Liberty Hall at 6 p.m. All members, their families and guests are cordially invited.



Navarro County Branch of NAACP will hold a general membership meeting at 7 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center, 1114 E. Sixth Ave. All members are asked to attend. Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at Sirloin Stockade, 2508 W. Seventh Ave. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28, 1961, and May 7, 1975, or in any duty location between Aug. 5, 1964, and May 7, 1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guests are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

Through Aug. 15

Blooming Grove Elementary School will hold registration for all pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and students new to the district from 8 to 11:30 a.m. and from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays through Aug. 15. Parents of pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students must bring the birth certificate, immunization record, and Social Security card for their child when registering. For students who attended school in another district last year, parents must bring the final student success initiative report (TPRI report) or their spring 2008 TAKS report from the previous district. If parents are unable to attend registration at the designated times, please call the school at (903) 695-2541 to make arrangements for an alternate time. Students who attended Blooming Grove Elementary during the 2007-2008 school year do not need to register at this time.



Aug. 16

The annual fajita cook-off, sponsored by the Navarro County A&M Club, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Fannie Mae Vernon Room of the Navarro County Exposition Center. Dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. Entertainment will be by Chris Dyer and more. Cost for meal will be $12 for adults, $6 for students 18 and under, and free for kids 6 and under. Corsicana Masonic Lodge will have a fish fry beginning at 11 a.m. in the parking lot of the lodge on North 15th Street. Other Masonic lodges are joining in to benefit the Corsicana Lodge.

Blooming Grove Elementary School will hold orientation and supply drop-off for all students from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Parents and students will have the opportunity to drop off supplies, meet their child’s teacher and visit the classroom before school starts the following Monday. All grade levels are welcome to attend, but the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten parents are especially encouraged to attend and bring their children to visit before the first day of school. Class rosters will be posted at the front entrance and will remain posted until the first day of school.
