Aug. 16
The annual fajita cook-off, sponsored by the Navarro County A&M Club, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Fannie Mae Vernon Room of the Navarro County Exposition Center. Dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. Entertainment will be by Chris Dyer and more. Cost for meal will be $12 for adults, $6 for students 18 and under, and free for kids 6 and under.
Corsicana Masonic Lodge will have a fish fry beginning at 11 a.m. in the parking lot of the lodge on North 15th Street. Other Masonic lodges are joining in to benefit the Corsicana Lodge.
RJ Productions will host a team sorting at the Navarro County Exposition Center. Practice will begin at 6:30 p.m. with event to begin at 8 p.m. Admission will be free to the public.
The Tressie Lacy Langston Scholarship Foundation of Navarro County will have a reception held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at LaQuinta Inn, located at State Highway 31 and Interstate 45. The public is invited.
A car wash fund-raiser benefiting the Corsicana High School Choir will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Seventh Avenue between Fred’s and Rent One. Donations will be appreciated.
Aug. 17
Pooch Paddle, sponsored by the Navarro County Animals at Risk Foundation and Corsicana Parks and Recreation Department, will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. at Jester Park Pool. Friendly fidos and their equally friendly humans are welcome to come out and have a great time. All pooches in attendance need to be healthy and up to date on vaccinations. Cost is $5 per pooch (must be accompanied by a human).
Aug. 18
Drane Intermediate School will have a meet-the-teacher night/orientation from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The City of Corsicana and Allied Waste will host a town hall meeting at 6 p.m. at the Corsicana Public Library Civic Room to discuss the trash collection pilot project. Barry Crime Watch will meet at 7 p.m. at Barry United Methodist Church. Art Kampschafdr, an employee with Community Services, will speak on weatherization services. Everyone is invited. Light refreshments will be served.

All grade levels are welcome to attend, but the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten parents are especially encouraged to attend and bring their children to visit before the first day of school. Class rosters will be posted at the front entrance and will remain posted until the first day of school.

Wortham Independent School District will have a back-to-school bash at 7 p.m. in the Wortham High School gym. Preceding the bash, there will be a pre-kindergarten through first grade orientation at 6 p.m. at Wortham Elementary School.
Navarro County Board of Realtors will meet at noon at Calvary Worship Center, 1364 N. Beaton St. Catering will be by Affordable Affairs. Corsicana Daily Sun will sponsor the luncheon. Darby Washeck, operations analyst with the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Dallas office, is in charge of the program. He holds a Texas broker real estate license and has been with HUD for 30 years. Make your reservations to the board office no later than Aug. 19.

Corsicana High School freshmen orientation will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Dawson Elementary School will have “meet the teachers” from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Class rosters will be posted at the front entrance and cafeteria and remain posted until the first day of school. Navarro County Republican Women invite women in the area to attend the Texas Federation Republican Women rally at the Holiday Inn Express in Salado. It will begin with registration at 9:30 a.m. and will end at 3:30 p.m. Cost will be $20, including lunch. Rooms at the Holiday Inn are available for $99 for those that want to stay overnight. The Republican Party of Navarro County will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on the seventh floor of the Bank of America building, 100 N. Main St. Justice Felipe Reyna of the 10th Court of Appeals in Waco will be the featured speaker. Reyna is the oldest of five children to a migrant worker and paid his way through Baylor Law School by working as a janitor at the 10th Court of Appeals. Now he is administering justice on those same courthouse grounds. From janitor to justice, Reyna has overcome humble roots with hard work and determination, inspiring Texans. City of Blooming Grove will hold its monthly city council meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Blooming Grove City Hall, 200 S. Fordyce St.

Blooming Grove Young at Heart will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. in the meeting room of the Blooming Grove Fire Station.
