Herrington seeks third term in Precinct 1

By Bob Belcher

Kit Herrington, 55, is seeking his third term as the Precinct 1 Navarro County Commissioner.

Unopposed in the primary election this spring, Herrington faces a write-in challenger in the Nov. 4 General Election. He has been a resident of the county since 1985, and was first elected to the commissioners court in 2000.

Herrington is a Beaumont native, living full time in Navarro County since 1985, although he traces his routes back to the 1860s in Freestone and Navarro County — his grandfather a doctor who hailed from Fairfield, his grandmother a native of Powell.

“I enjoy serving the public, and feel comfortable with the work I do and the people I work with,” Herrington said. “With the people’s approval, I’d like to continue trying to do what’s best for our county and its citizens.”

Looking into a third term, keeping the county on track with its limited budget is a key goal for Herrington.

“The challenges are always trying to do the best we can with the income we have,” he said. “We try to manage our money wisely and provide good services for our citizens.”

Herrington’s stance on the proposed gas-fired electric generating power plants considering building in Navarro County came as a result of research and listening to the people of his precinct and the county.

“I think they can definitely be beneficial,” he said. “I think the public’s sentiment on accepting them is much better than it was than when the information first came out.

“I feel comfortable supporting them,” he added.

Herrington is a 1975 graduate of Texas A&M University, and has two daughters in college.
