Oct. 15
Corsicana Independent School District community open house will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at Collins Middle School, Corsicana High School and Tiger Stadium for the community to tour the new facilities.
Oct. 16
The district court jury panel set for 1:30 p.m. has been dismissed.
Navarro Extension Club will meet at the Navarro County Courthouse third floor at 11 a.m. This club works with Texas Cooperative Extension to strengthen and enrich families through education programs, leadership development and community service. Corsicana Band Boosters will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Corsicana High School band hall. Parents of students in Drane Intermediate School, Collins Middle School and Corsicana High School bands, and anyone else who is interested in encouraging and supporting the band program are invited to attend. Band Booster membership is $5 per family.
Unique Parents of Unique Children support group meeting (for children with special needs) will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Carroll Elementary Early Childhood Center, 1101 E. 13th Ave. You are invited to join in for some freaky fun, frightening food and special speaker from Innovative Therapies Inc. The Salvation Army will take applications for Christmas assistance from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 17-19 at The Salvation Army Church, 202 E. First Ave. When applying for assistance, bring the following: Social Security cards for each member of the household; birth certificates or Medicaid form for children 12 and younger; verification of income (i.e. pay stubs); and verification of expense (i.e. rent/mortgage payments, utility bills, medical bills, etc.); ages and clothing sizes of children under 12. Applicants must apply in person. Applications will not be taken over the phone. Make sure arrangements have been made for your children due to limited space. Senior citizens on limited income may also apply for Christmas help. Documents for seniors will be the same as above.

Navarro Regional Hospital Auxiliary will host a book fair fund-raiser from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the hospital’s front lobby. All proceeds from the sales will benefit the NRH Auxiliary’s Winona Stewart Scholarship Fund for Navarro College students going into a medical field.

Kerens 2006 Cotton Harvest Festival will be held in downtown Kerens. There will be a pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. at the Kerens Alumni Center. Arts and crafts booths will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will also be bingo, children’s activities, mule wagon rides, fire truck rides, antique cars, chili cook-off, tour of cotton gin, 3-on-3 basketball tournament, clay target shoot, horseshoe pitching competition, quilt show, tales of the cotton patch, live entertainment throughout the day, and displays of cotton equipment from over the years. The day will end with a downtown dance from 8 to 10 p.m. with Ira Bradford and Bustin Loose. Bring your lawn chairs and come enjoy the music. Concessions will be available. A benefit for firefighter Steve Vandiver will take place at the VFW, West State Highway 31. A benefit ride will leave between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. from the VFW. Entry fee will be $10 per person. Baby Jacob Owen Corsicana Heart Walk, sponsored by the American Heart Association, will be held beginning at 8 a.m. in Community Park. An awards ceremony will be at 8:15 a.m. The walk will begin at 9 a.m. Teams are needed. The 42nd annual Optimist Club auction benefiting the youth of Navarro County will be held at The Cook Center. Richland Volunteer Fire Department will host a street dance and barbecue dinner starting at 5 p.m. The Full House Band will provide the entertainment for the evening. Corsicana High School will have “College Night” from 6 to 8 p.m. in the CHS commons. About 25 college representatives are expected to attend as well as local organizations offering scholarships. CHS will also provide a financial aid seminar about 6:30 p.m. in the CHS library. There will also be free hot dogs and free T-shirts. “Easy Entertaining 101” will be presented at 6 p.m. at Texas Tea House, sponsored by Corsicana Camp Fire, Motycka’s and Texas Tea House. The evening will include demonstrations from two chefs and one florist for holiday entertaining, sample dinner including desserts, and exclusive shopping. Demonstrators will rotate through the three rooms in the Texas Tea House so everyone will have an opportunity to view the demonstrations and participate in the fun. Table sponsorships are available.
