A Cook Center Christmas
Planetarium holiday show schedule announced
From Staff Reports
The Cook Center Planetarium holiday show schedule has been announced for Nov. 6 through Dec. 19 with the showing of “Cosmic Voyage” and “The Christmas Star.”
“Cosmic Voyage,” a 35-minute program produced by the Smithsonian Institution’s National Air and Space Museum, mixes ground-breaking computer animation with cutting-edge science to give a sweeping view of the universe. A “cosmic zoom” extends from the surface of the Earth to the largest observable structures of the universe, and then back down into the sub-nuclear realm — a guided tour across some 42 orders of magnitude. “Cosmic Voyage” explores the universe of the very large as revealed by the telescope, as well as the universe of the very small as revealed by the microscope and physics on a grand scale that is only possible in large-format film.
“The Christmas Star,” a 30-minute holiday favorite, explores the scientific possibilities for one of the most elusive astronomical riddles in history. What celestial object guided the wise men on their journey to Bethlehem more than 2,000 years ago; was it a meteor, a comet, a special grouping of planets, or a real miracle? This program explores this topic in detail using the scriptures, modern astronomical knowledge, and extensive research into Roman and Hebrew historical records.
“Cosmic Voyage” is scheduled to show Fridays at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and Saturdays at 2 p.m.; and “The Christmas Star” is scheduled to show Fridays at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., and Saturdays at 3 p.m. The Cook Center Planetarium is located on Corsicana’s Navarro College campus.
