Nov. 10

NASA will give a “thank you” to Navarro County residents for supporting NASA’s return to flight with a barbecue picnic from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at The Cook Center on the Navarro College campus. A program will be given from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Astronaut autographs will be available from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. and from 7:30 to 8:15 p.m.



Camp of the Rising Sun invites you to celebrate 30 years of being “Wild About Camp” from 5 to 8 p.m. at Gander Mountain Lodge. Refreshments will be offered. Zambian Vocal Group will perform. Come join in for this “come and go” celebration/fund-raising event. Great door prizes (eligible with donation) will be throughout the evening. Tax deductible donations may be mailed to Camp of the Rising Sun, P.O. Box 1944, Corsicana, TX 75151-1944.



Navarro County World War I and II veterans, who are willing to be interviewed by the Corsicana High School world geography and world history students, are asked to come to a “mixer” from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the CHS commons.



Mary Peterson Child Care Center will have a Thanksgiving dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. at 1103 E. Collin St. Cost will be $5. The public is welcome to dine in or carry out. For more information, call (903) 874-7091.

Nov. 11

Navarro County Retired Teachers Association will meet at 9:45 a.m. at the Northwest Apartments Community Room, 1360 N. 13th St. The program will be by Virginia Mays of Texas Cooperative Extension. Blooming Grove Elementary will have a Veteran’s Day program at 2 p.m. All veterans and the public are invited to attend.

The Freedom Field of over 700 American flags will be put up again to run through Nov. 28. Coordinator Ann Massey is needing volunteers to help ready the flags from 8 a.m. to noon. Mildred Independent School District will have a Veteran’s Day program at 9:30 a.m. at Asby Field. Patriot songs will be sung and local veterans will be honored.



Kerens Ex-Students will have a chili supper and game night at the KESA Building. All veterans are invited to eat free. The event will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Cost will be $5 for a great bowl of chili and homemade pie. Come join in and visit with a neighbor.



Navarro County War Memorial will have a Veteran’s Day ceremony at 11 a.m. at the war memorial, located at the Navarro County Courthouse.



Nov. 12

The Palace Theatre will present the legendary Eddy Raven in concert at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $18 on the floor and $12 in the balcony. For more information, call the Palace at (903) 874-7792.



American Legion Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., invites members and their guests for an evening of dinner and karaoke. Post will open at 2 p.m. The fish fry dinner with all the trimmings will start at 6 p.m. at $6 per person. Ralph Vinson Day, a Veteran’s Day celebration, will be held at 11 a.m. at Blooming Grove City Park, sponsored by the Blooming Grove Korean and Vietnam Veterans Committee. Barbecue sandwich meals including a drink and chips will be sold at $5 each. Other honorees besides Vinson will be veterans Alon Gaines, Sidney Moore, Harvey McClure, Elmer Ledbetter, Ray Ellis, Doodle Boyd, Ron Hollingsworth, Edwin Hinkle, Gary Watkins and Jon Grimmett.



The annual Day in November, an arts and crafts festival, will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at College Park Mall.

Chatfield Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual fall bazaar from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Chatfield Fire Station, located on Farm-to-Market Road 1603. Home-baked goods and craft items will be available. All benefits and donations will be for the upkeep of the Chatfield VFD.



Prairie Point-Bazette Cemetery Association will have its annual meeting at 2 p.m. at Bazette Baptist Church.



Nov. 12-13

Central Texas Quarter Horse Association will host an open horse show at the Navarro County Exposition Center, 4021 W. State Highway 22, Corsicana. Halter, English and western divisions will start at 9 a.m. Nov. 12. Speed events will exhibit at 11 a.m. Nov. 13 with event not to start before 1 p.m. No dogs allowed. Nov. 14

The district court jury panel set for 10 a.m. has been dismissed.



American Cancer Society will hold a Road to Recovery volunteer drivers training workshop at First United Methodist Church, 320 N. 15th St., Corsicana. This meeting will be open to everyone who has a valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance. Both of these items must be brought to the meeting. There is no charge to come and learn what to do if patients need additional help while driving to their treatment. If you can give a minimum of three hours per trip, once a week, twice a month, or monthly, you are needed. For more information, call (903) 874-5246.



Corsicana Band Boosters will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Corsicana High School library. Parents of students in Drane Intermediate School, Collins Middle School and Corsicana High School bands, and anyone else who is interested in encouraging and supporting the band program are invited to attend.



Woodmen of the World Lodge No. 5 will meet at 6 p.m. for a Thanksgiving meal. Members and their guests are cordially invited.



Navarro County Republican Party will meet at 7 p.m. on the seventh floor of Bank of America, 100 N. Main St. All prospective Republican candidates are invited to attend. Navarro College SBDC will sponsor a session on creating a business plan from 9 a.m. to noon at the Corsicana/Navarro County Chamber of Commerce, 120 N. 12th St. Cost of the workshop will be $20. There will be a session on discussing copyrights and patents from 1 to 3 p.m. Cost of this workshop will be $20. Also, there will be a special workshop from 6:30 to 9 p.m. designed to help establish a firm foundation in the pursuit of any of life’s opportunities, whether it is a new business to start up, attainment of college education, successful career achievement or positive personal development. Admission for this workshop will be a new, unwrapped toy to be donated to this year’s Toys for Tots Christmas drive. Downtown Christmas celebration will be held beginning from 3 to 5 p.m. with pictures with Santa at Pocket Park, 120 N. Beaton St. Photos will be taken by Memories by Melissa (two 4-by-6 photos for $10). The Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours, sponsored by Corsicana Parks and Recreation Department, Corsicana Main Street Project and Corsicana Downtown Association, will be held from 5:32 to 7:02 p.m. with refreshments, Santa Claus, entertainment and carriage rides. At 6:30 p.m. the downtown lighting ceremony will be held followed by a fireworks display.

Corsicana Art League will meet at 6:30 p.m. at The Gaze Studio, 108 W. An AARP drivers safety program will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at the Senior Activity Center. Cost will be $10 per person, payable to AARP when you arrive for class. The class, taught by Jim Jones, will hold 35 people. This course does not remediate a traffic violation ticket. This course helps you with your insurance cost.
