Local news such as public meetings, luncheons, events and other non-club local items for not-for-profit associations are listed in this column.

Dec. 1

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3366, located at Veterans Drive off West State Highway 31, will have karaoke with Wayne Farmer from Fort Worth from 8 to 11:45 p.m. The VFW Post canteen will open at 4 p.m. For more information, call after 4 p.m. to (903) 872-3811.



Dec. 1-31

Corsicana Police Department will accept alarm permit renewals during December. Any permit that is renewed before Dec. 31 can be renewed with a $5 fee. Any permit renewed after Dec. 31 will require a $25 renewal fee. Any operational burglar alarm system located in the Corsicana city limits is required by City Ordinance (Sec 4.1200) to have a current alarm permit on file. Violation of this ordinance can result in a citation being issued to the owner of the premises where the alarm is located. Permits can be renewed in person from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the Corsicana Police Department or by mail at: Corsicana Police Department, Records Division, 200 N. 12th St., Corsicana, TX 75110. Dec. 2

Corsicana Art League will host a trip to the Meadows Museum, SMU, Dallas, for a docent-led tour of the current exhibition “From Cranach to Monet,” leaving Corsicana at 9 a.m. This will be in lieu of a December meeting. Anyone interesting in going, call Margie Taylor at (903) 875-0519.



American Legion Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., invites members and their guests for an evening of karaoke with Wayne Farmer from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. No cover charge. Post will open at 2 p.m. For more information, call (903) 874-3938.



Chatfield Ladies Auxiliary will have a quilt raffle during the annual Chatfield fall bazaar, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Chatfield Volunteer Fire Department, Farm-to-Market Road 1603. A book sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Corsicana Public Library, 100 N. 12th St., sponsored by the Friends of the Library.



Dec. 4

City of Blooming Grove will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Blooming Grove City Hall, 200 S. Fordyce.



Navarro College student recital will be held beginning at 4 p.m. in the Choir Room (Room FA 115), located in the Fine Arts Building on the Navarro College campus. The public is invited.



The Republican Party of Navarro County will hold an executive committee meeting at 6 p.m. on the seventh floor of the Bank of America building, 100 N. Main St., Corsicana. For more information, call John Curtis at (903) 874-0056.



Navarro County Freedom Fighters Chapter of the Texas Motorcycle Rights Association 2 will meet at 7 p.m. at That Church, 3640 N. Business 45. All bikers are welcome. For more information, call James at (903) 327-2929.



Corsicana Band Boosters will have “Band Night” at CiCi’s from 5 p.m. to closing as the business will donate 10 percent of proceeds to the Band Booster program.



Piecemakers Quilt Guild’s meeting and catered luncheon will be held at Westhill Church of Christ. The business meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m. The 2007 officers will be installed. Members are reminded to bring canned goods for the Food Pantry. Those interested in a quilting-related gift exchange are asked to bring a wrapped $15 gift. Each person should bring a Christmas fat quarter or quarters for a drawing. Also, those making Jacob’s ladder blocks are asked to bring those for a drawing.



Corsicana YMCA will team up with Carter BloodCare from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for a community blood drive at the YMCA, 400 Oaklawn Drive. Donors will receive a T-shirt and can participate in the “Be a Star and give blood!” for a voucher for discounted Dallas Stars tickets and a chance to win a night in a luxury suite for the Jan. 9 Dallas vs. Phoenix game. Donors must be 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good general health and bring a photo ID. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call Laura Herrin at (903) 872-2412.



Dec. 5

Corsicana Chapter 118, Order of the Eastern Star, will have a stated meeting at the Corsicana Masonic Temple, 201 N. 15th St. All area OES members are invited to attend. Potluck dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. For more information, call Allie Mae Dodson at (903) 872-6848.



Navarro College SBDC will have a workshop on writing a winning business plan from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Corsicana/Navarro County Chamber of Commerce, 120 N. 12th St. Cost of the workshop will be $20. American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Navarro Shriner’s Building, 323 N. Commerce St., Corsicana. To donate, one must be at least 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good general health and bring a photo ID. While appointments will be honored at the drive, they are not required and walk-ins are welcome. For an appointment or more information, call (800) 448-3543.
