Corsicana — The Navarro County Grand Jury returned 55 indictments Thursday, ranging from theft to aggravated sexual assault.

An indictment merely says that there’s enough evidence to take the case to trial, it is not a finding of guilt or innocence.

David C. McElwreath is facing two indictments, one for aggravated sexual assault and another for indecency with a child for allegedly assaulting the daughter of a girlfriend.

In a separate case, John M. Parnell is charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child for allegedly abusing a girl in his family from the time she was about three years old until she was about nine years old. Parnell no longer lives in Texas, but these charges stem from when he was living in Navarro County.

Mary A. Pitts and Tanya M. Weber were stopped by police officers on the highway and a search allegedly revealed 2.5 pounds of cocaine hidden in a secret compartment of the dash of the car. They are charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
