Corsicana — A Navarro County man was indicted in connection with a 2007 sexual assault, according to the list of indictments released Thursday by the District Attorney’s office.

Jorge Alberto Gonzales is charged with aggravated sexual assault, and if convicted could face a sentence of five to 99 years in prison, or life.

“The offense was allegedly committed Sept. 6, 2007. We just got enough evidence to identify the suspect,” said District Attorney Lowell Thompson. “We’ve already convicted one suspect, we were just trying to identify the other one.”

This was the last meeting of the grand jury which first convened in April. The next docket in July will be with a new grand jury, Thompson said.

“They did a real good job of deliberating,” he said of the jury.

The duty of the grand jury is to determine if enough evidence exists to bring charges against a suspect. A trial jury’s duty is to decide whether or not someone is guilty.
