After a short holiday break, workers are back to work on the project to fix drainage issues and then rebuild Highway 31 or Seventh Avenue as it goes through Corsicana.
Just before the holidays, the lanes were shifted once again on the portion of road between 20th and 28th streets to allow for laying pipe on the south side starting Monday, according to Darwin Meyers, area engineer for the Texas Department of Transportation.
“The drain line down the center was the main trunk line but as each side is done then the lateral lines and inlets will be connected to the main trunk down the middle of the road,” Meyers said.
The work to improve drainage on Corsicana’s primary east-west corridor began in Summer 2011. It was expected to be an two-year project, but work has gone slower than expected. Now, the expected completion date is May 2014, Meyers said.
