The Richland Chambers Coast Guard Auxiliary 05-16 Flotilla was awarded Silver Oar Award Bell Stand and first paddle for 2012 at its’ meeting at Harbor Inn Restaurant on March 2, 2013,
The award was presented by USCG Auxiliary District 8th Coastal Region Chief of Staff, Allen Harding.
The flotilla was led by Flotilla Commander Jan Harding, one of the “charter” members of the newly formed flotilla when it was begun in 2011.
The Silver Oar program has been a part of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Eighth District Coastal Region for over 30 years and was based on the “traditional missions” including Public Education Hours, Operations Hours, Vessel Safety Checks, Program Visitor Visits, Coast Guard Support Hours, Member Training Hours, Public Affairs Missions, Qualifications and Specialty Courses, and Year end membership and qualifications
To obtain the Silver Oar award a flotilla must have attained 100 percent or more in at least 5 missions. The percentage is based on flotilla membership and so much of a percentage for each member in each mission.
In obtaining the “Silver Oar” itself is a significant accomplishment and is especially noteworthy in that 2012 was the first full year of Flotilla 5-16 at Richland Chambers Lake.
