Jack married Jack Valton McDaniel on June 7, 1941, in Yuma, Ariz., and started a 66-year long marriage of a “Pair of Jacks.” “She-Jack” was a Corsicana High School Band drum majorette and while princess of CHS became known for “de-throning” her prince prior to the coronation ball. “He-Jack” was later re-instated and remained by her side until his death in August 2007. The pair of Jacks lived “most” of their adult lives in Corsicana, nurturing numerous lifelong friendships.
Jack’s primary life occupation was wife, homemaker and mother to “Her Three Sons.” At age 40, she embarked on her “second” career working for more than 26 years with the Corsicana ISD as secretary, training six different superintendents. Retiring in 1988, the pair of Jacks enjoyed life on the farm, at the lake and on the road, traversing across the country in their travel trailer and around the globe on other holiday adventures, making new friends from Kerrville, Texas, to Timaru, New Zealand, to Bar Harbor, Maine. Jack was also known as the “turtle lady,” establishing a stopover “bed and breakfast” for scores of Texas box terrapins that visited her home over the years.
Jack was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, continuing a long family heritage dating to the 1800s.
She was preceded in death by her parents, older brother Donald Asa Marr and the prince of her life, Jack V. McDaniel.
She is survived by her three sons, Ronny McDaniel and Dr. Reeve Love of Albuquerque, N.M., David and Linda McDaniel of Rockwall and Brian and Weida McDaniel of Rowlett; grandsons, Chris McDaniel and Shawn McDaniel and wife Myranda of Austin; granddaughter, Danielle Laynor and husband Alex of Rowlett; and two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Austin Laynor of Rowlett.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society Relay For Life in memory of her valiant prince, Jack V. McDaniel.
