Jerry Vinson Reeder
On Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, the angels came to deliver Jerry Vinson “Papaw” Reeder to his Heavenly Father. He passed away in Tyler after a courageous battle and complications from kidney disease. He was born June 14, 1931, in McKinney. He was one of nine children born to Even A. and Eunice Woodard Reeder.
He served his country in Korea in 1952-1954, and continued to serve his fellow veterans and families as commander of VFW Post 3366. He was a mechanic and farmer in Corsicana for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Even A. and Eunice Reeder; brothers, Monroe Reeder and Buddy Reeder; sisters, Wanda Spurier and Gledus Wellborn; and granddaughters, Angela Horton and Sunday Ann Miller.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Jean Reeder of Corsicana; daughters, Ruth Ann Horton of Corsicana, Rita Jo Sowell and husband Mike of Thornton, Donna Kay Evertt and husband Robert of Jefferson, Ga.; sons, Jerry Michael Reeder of Purdon and Jimmy Daryl Reeder and companion Frances Ramos of Corsicana; first wife and mother of his children, Ima Deen Reeder of Corsicana; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; step-children, Denis Edward Gee and wife Susan of Dallas, Stanley Wayne Gee of Plano, Jenean Howarth of New Braunfels, Patti Smith and husband Richard of Corpus Christi; 10 step-grandchildren and 14 step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Letha Kite of Corsicana and Verrena Luce of Arlington; and brothers, T.C. Reeder and wife Kay of Temple and Ronnie Reeder and wife Gail of Burleson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Corley Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at Corley Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Rick Lamb officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Michael Reeder Jr., Bubba Wren, Justin Gordon, John Cotton, Bill Richards, Jackie Farmer, John Ivy, and Stanley Gee. Honorary Pallbears will be Gene Spicer, Johnny Meyers, and C.B. Sims.
