— Terry Calvin Nelson, 61, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013 at T. Boone Pickens Cancer hospital in Dallas.

He was born in Corsicana March 5, 1952 to James C. and Louise Mitchell Nelson.

Terry graduated from Corsicana High School in 1970. He was the President of the CHS Band and played the trumpet. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Design. He then moved to Houston to work for Brown & Root as a plumbing systems designer.

He married Sara Childs of Fairfield June 26, 1976. They moved to Corsicana in 1977 where he took over Nelson Plumbing. Later he went to work for Navarro College as Assistant Director of Maintenance where he remained until his death. He loved his college “family” dearly.

Growing up, Terry was an avid water skier and later enjoyed riding motorcycles. He became a member of the Iron Butt Association after riding 1,025 miles through three states in 24 hours. He also enjoyed blues music and was a constant reader.

Terry loved kids and sports, especially softball and soccer. He coached both of his daughters’ summer softball teams and was thrilled to watch his son on the soccer field.

Terry was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and let the Lord’s light shine through him as he touched others’ lives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James C. Nelson and Louise Mitchell Nelson.

He is survived by his wife, Sara and their three children, Brandon Nelson of College Station, Brooke Nelson of Richardson and Blaire Nelson of Denton; his brother, Jim Nelson and wife Linda of Flower Mound, brother-in-law Tilden R. Childs, Jr. and wife Cathy of Fairfield and nieces Laurie Rebenstein and husband Mike of Liberty, Mo. and Jamie Nelson and husband Chris Sanchez of New Boston, one aunt Pearl Garza and numerous cousins.

Terry was a loving husband and father and will forever be missed by his family and many friends.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2013 at Griffin Roughton Funeral Home. f

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013 at Griffin Roughton Funeral Home and burial will follow at 2 p.m. at the Fairfield Cemetery.
