Funeral services for Dewey Osteen will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013 at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman. Rev. Houston Garner, Dr. Mike Lawson, and Rev. Steve Rice will officiate. Military honors will be rendered by the Sheppard Air Force Base Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers are Brandon Walker, Casey Walker, Morgan Reynolds, Ben Williams, Bill Gray, Jeff Brown, Jordan Davis, and Andy Fisher. Dewey Osteen, 95, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013 at Texas Health Presbyterian-WNJ.
Dewey was born April 3, 1918 in Silver City, Texas to the late John and Pearl (Poole) Osteen. S/Sgt Dewey Osteen joined the United States Air Force in November 1942 and served overseas with the 351st Bombing Group. He was awarded the bronze star for meritorious conduct with military operations against an enemy of the U.S. while serving as group draftsman and N.C.O. in charge of the map room.
Mr. Osteen moved to Sherman in 1958 and was in the lumber business until the mid 1970s. He was a homebuilder for many years and a member of the Local Home Builders Association where he served as a director. Dewey was also a realtor for over 40 years. He owned Osteen Realty for 27 years before merging with Century 21/ Dean Gilbert Realty. In 2009, Dewey was honored by the National Association of Realtors with the status of Realtor Emeritus for over 40 consecutive years of membership with the Greater Texoma Association of Realtors.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; and Leslie Kenney.
Mr. Osteen is survived by two daughters, Debbie Walker and husband John of Sherman and Vicki Reynolds and husband Mark of Allen; “special friend” Dorothy Brown and her children, Jeff Brown, Jennifer Fisher and husband Andy, and their daughter Chloe. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Brandon Walker, Casey Walker, Haley Walker, Ashleigh Davis and husband Jordan, and Morgan Reynolds; one great grandchild (on the way); and two nieces, Sandra Walters of Hallsville and Diana Palsgrove of Malabar, Fla.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013 at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. The register book can be signed online at waldofuneralhome.com.
