Herman Gillen, 85, resident of Emhouse passed away Monday morning, Dec. 16, 2013 at his residence. He was born Friday, Aug. 17, 1928 in Cryer Creek to John and Lois Gillen.
He was a member of the Emhouse Methodist Church and a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, loving his horses over many years. He enjoyed showing his horses and roping. He also raised grey hounds. Herman worked for Crown Petroleum for 28 years in Corsicana. He was a natural baseball player and still played slow pitch later in life. He also loved to weld for the community. He farmed for many years in the Emhouse area.
Herman married Reta Patrica Eidson of Corsicana on Oct. 26, 1957. They lived in Emhouse and were married for 56 years.
He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Randy Hampton Gillen; parents and brother, Loyd Gillen of Cryer Creek.
He is survived by his wife Reta; three children, Danny Gillen and wife Terri of Mildred, Paula Trojeck and husband Eric of Ennis and Rhetta Wasinger of Corsicana; grandchildren, Jeremy Crawford, Amie O'Dell, Cody Trojeck, Katie McMullen, Amanda Dodds, Misty Gillen, Jake and Dalton Wasinger; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Jaynie Johnston and husband David and Sue Drain all of Emhouse.
Herman was a loving husband and father and will be forever missed by his family and many friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home with Dr. Gary Johnson and Rev. Alison Humann officiating. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Crawford, Samuel O'Dell, Cody Trojeck, Akram Dodds, Jake Wasinger, Dalton Wasinger and John David Johnston. Honorary Pallbearers will be Larry Melton, R.C. Warmack, Jimmy Nicholson, Hugh Nicholson, Don Taylor and Adam McMullen.
The family would like to thank Dr. Rogers and his staff, the staff at Family Care of Texas Home Health and Bristol Hospice. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Pattison Cemetery at 8265 NW County Road 1250, Corsicana, Texas 75110.
