Mary Lou Berlin

Mary Lou Berlin, 68, passed away Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at Summer Meadows Nursing Home in Longview, following a courageous and trying battle with cancer.    

Mrs. Berlin was born Aug. 1, 1945, in Longview, to Howard and Lucille Davis. Mary Lou graduated from Judson High School, Kilgore College, and received her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education in 1969, and Master of Library Science in 1974 from East Texas State University. She educated and guided many students in Texas and most recently retired from Spring Hill High School as a librarian. She was active as a volunteer for Good Shepherd Medical Center and the First United Methodist Church library for many years. She was a member of FUMC Alpha Omega Sunday School Class.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Herman C. Berlin; parents, Howard and Lucille Davis; and sister, Shirley Francis.

Survivors include daughter, Traci Keele and husband Jimmy of Kerens; son, James Reed and wife Lacy of Corsicana; daughter, Becky Drake of Longview; daughter, Amy Dubois and husband Brian of Longview; son, Jake Berlin of Gilmer; brother, Howard Davis and wife Pat; and sister, Naomia Ormes and husband Donald. She also was adored by 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, Asbury House, 400 N. Fredonia Street, Longview, TX 75601; or the charity of your choice.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at Welch Funeral Home, 4619 Judson Road, Longview.

Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at First United Methodist Church in Longview, with Dr. Roy James and the Rev. James Craver officiating. Interment will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery.
