Willie Gene Brown

    Elder Willie Gene Brown, 68, of Corsicana, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013 at the Heritage Oaks Retirement Village. He was born Aug. 17, 1945 in Dallas, to the parentage of the late Robert Brown and Alvessie Jackson.  He received his formal education in the G. W. Jackson School District and attended Navarro College in 1965. He later attended West Texas State University, Canyon, Texas. He was later drafted to the Washington Redskins football team.

    He met and married Vergie Lee Adams and to this union four children were born; Gerald, Valorie, Willie Bernard, Jr., and Terrance. Willie was employed by the Corsicana State Home, where he retired after 25 years. He was also employed at the Corsicana Jack-in-the-Box for 20 years.

    Willie accepted the Lord in his life at an early age and united with the Taylor's  Memorial Church Of God In Christ. He later joined the Love Chapel Baptist Church. He reunited with Taylor's Memorial in 1974 where he served as Assistant Pastor until his homegoing.

    He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Birdie Jackson; mother, Alvessie Jackson;  brother, Robert Brown, Jr., two sisters, Norma Jean McCoy and Barbara Ann White; and his eldest son, Gerald Brown.

    Those left to cherish his memory are: His loving wife, Vergie Lee Adams Brown, daughter Valorie Brown Horn (Clarence); two sons, Willie Bernard Brown, Jr.and Terrance; one brother, Rudolph Brown (Diane), 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Linda Rogers; one aunt, Willie Pearl Lowe; two brothers-in-law, R. A. Adams (Shirley), and Charles Adams (Nina); one sister-in-law, Deniece McDonald (Preston); a host of nieces, nephews; and all the adopted children from the Corsicana State Home, cousins and many friends.

    Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2013 at the Taylors' Memorial Church Of God In Christ located at 1624 G. W. Jackson Avenue.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013 at Lifeline Fellowship Family Church located at 5301 West Hwy 31. Interment will follow at Woodland Memorial Park.
