Douglas Benjiman Richter

Douglas Benjiman Richter, born to Benno and Helen Hertha Richter Aug. 19, 1934 in Smithville, went to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013 with his loving family surrounding him.

Known to many as Bro. Doug, he is survived by his loving wife of 33 years Latriece; children Marilyn Sue Lewis and husband Larry of Woodward, Okla.; Perry Richter and wife Becky of Navarro; daughter Lisa Cobb and husband Ray of Corsicana; daughter Marsha Qualls and husband Jimmy of Winkler; son David and wife Terrie of Mildred; and daughter Mary Cobb Jock of Corsicana. Doug is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, beloved nieces and nephews.

Doug was the music minister at Unity Baptist Church and “when all of God's singers come home” he will be there singing right along. He was known throughout the community for his smile and joking manner and always taking the time to visit and go to sing at all the area nursing homes. Always known for his love of gardening and sharing it with everyone.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2013 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at Unity Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Providence Cemetery in Mildred. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jimmy Richter, Michael Lewis, Bryan Lewis, Tyler Richter, David Sparkman, Jeremey Cobb, Ben Richter, Jason Richter. Honorary pallbearers Caleb Richter and Logan Jock.

In lieu of flowers Doug requested donations be made for missions, his love and passion.
