Jack Tatum

Corsicana — Jack Tatum, resident of Corsicana, passed away Wednesday evening, Feb. 12, 2014 at Navarro Regional Hospital at the age of 77. He was born Sunday, May 24, 1936 to Henry and Bess Tatum in Gainsville. He was a member of North Beaton Church of Christ where he served any way he could with prayer and a glad heart.

Jack loved people and to see people smile and he always had a joke for whoever was around him.

Jack grew up playing football from fourth grade through high school, and then three years of service football for the United States Army in France. After his playing days were over he coached little league baseball and then refereed high school football with the Texas Referee Association. He enjoyed watching Navarro College baseball, football and basketball. He and Annett enjoyed going to the Big 12 baseball tournament in Oklahoma City.

Jack and Annett came to Corsicana in 1985 and he began his career with the I.O.O.F. as Grand Secretary for the state of Texas. During that time he served as a representative to the Sovereign Grand Lodge of the world serving on the finance committee for a number of years, he retired in 2005 as the Grand Secretary Emeritus. He also served on several committees for Corsicana Chamber of Commerce.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Maggie Akard, Ruth Aldridge and Betty Johnson; brothers, Ed Tatum and Bob Tatum.

He is survived by his wife Annett Tatum; mother-in-law, Burney Henry; aunt, Betty Jean Hall; nephews, Webb Tatum and wife Carol, Donnie Aldridge, Earl Wayne Aldridge and wife Carol and one niece, Elaine Aldridge.

Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home Chapel with Steve Orbison officiating.

I.O.O.F graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Gainsville. Honorary Pallbearers will be I.O.O.F. of Texas.
