Paula Kay (Eakin) Gonzalez, 71, of Kaufman, passed away Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014 in Kaufman. She was born July 22, 1942 to Edgar Earl Eakin, Jr. and Virginia Ruth (McClure) Eakin in Bowie. Known to many as “Squaw,” Paula loved to bake, do crossword puzzles, and watch her favorite game shows, “Wheel of Fortune” and “The Price is Right.” She was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxillary for over nine years. She was a dedicated Christian lady and was a member of Kaufman County Christian Center for six years. Paula was a modest, humble woman, known for shining the light on others, while never drawing attention to herself. She was a quiet fighter and was a 30-year ovarian cancer survivor. Paula will truly be missed by all whose lives she shone through.
Paula was welcomed into Heaven by her parents and sister Wilma Lee Hogle.
Those left to celebrate her life are children Dionea Kaye Ponce and husband Esteban of Longview and Lynn Eakin and wife Colleen of Longview; siblings Iris F. Mesker of Corsicana, Edgar Hugh Eakin and wife Tonda of Garden City, KS, and Earl Dwayne Eakin of Kaufman; grandchildren Latausha L. Valadez and husband Samuel of Searcy, Ark., Martha Kay Valadez and husband Alejandro of Longview, and Justin Eakin of Longview; six great-grandchildren; two nephews and two nieces.
Family received visitors on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at Anderson-Clayton Bros. in Kaufman.
Celebration of life was Thursday at 10 a.m. at Kaufman County Christian Center in Kaufman. Interment will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Electra Memorial Cemetery in Electra.
