Inita Barbara Herod Jones

Services for Inita Herod Jones, “Dede,” will be held Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at 10 a.m. at  Marvin United Methodist Church Chapel, Tyler, with visitation to begin at 9 a.m.  A private interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana.  Arrangements are with Stewart Family Funeral Home.

She was born July 25, 1920, to Charles Walter and Mary Herod and grew up in Corsicana. She graduated from Corsicana High School in 1938 and was the first female member of the varsity tennis team. She married Charles Reign Jones on May 10, 1940, and after his return from World War II they moved to Fort Worth with Mobil Oil Company. Later they were transferred to Beaumont, where they lived most of their working life.

Inita was active in the First Methodist Church in Beaumont, where she taught fourth grade Sunday school for many years. She became a realtor, took classes at Lamar College, and worked with good friends and neighbors at Biscamp Real Estate. Upon retirement they returned to their hometown of Corsicana and spent the years traveling, gardening, flower arranging, bird watching and doing genealogical research. Her favorite pastime was volunteering at the Library and researching her family tree as well as assisting others. In Corsicana she belonged to the James Blair Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, was a lifetime member of the Colonel Roger Q. Mills Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and Navarro County Geneaological Society.

In 2001 their home moved to Tyler to be close to their daughter and son-in-law, and she joined Marvin United Methodist Church, Mary Tyler Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, TASCA, the Holt House, the Marvin Guild Circle, and the Century Class, where she made some very dear friends.

Inita was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Walter and Mary Herod, Corsicana; husband, Charles Reign Jones; brothers, Liston Herod, Sr. and Conrad Herod, Corsicana; sisters Alene Ammons, Wink; Ozalla Wiley, Corsicana; Montez Weidmann, Corsicana; Ellawee Noland, San Antonio; and Mary Etta Robinson, San Antonio; nephews Liston Herod, William Ammons, Charles Ammons, Son Wylie, and nieces Mary Lynn Morriss, Mary Ann Robinson French and Faye Evelyn Wright.

She is survived by her daughter, Junella Grace McClusky and Dr. Edwin McClusky, Tyler; grandsons Edward Todd McClusky, J’son Burnett, Denver, Colo.; Dr. Derek Reign McClusky, Sharla McClusky, of Ruston, La.; one great-grandson, Hayden Reign McClusky, Ruston, La.; nieces and nephews Trena Weidmann, Tresa Weidmann Darby, Robert Herod, Corsicana; Mary Ann Birchfield, Houston; William Robinson, San Antonio; and Patricia Herod Partney of Fort Worth.

The family owes a special gratitude to Dr. Richard Anderson, Dr. David Hector, and her son-in-law whom she considered her son, Dr. Edwin McClusky, for many years of extraordinary care; and to Regina Jackson Barlow, special friend and caregiver, and the staff at Meadowlake and Hospice of East Texas.

Memorials may be made to the Marvin United Methodist Church, 300 W Erwin; Tyler, 75702, or to the Hospice of East Texas Foundation, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, 75701, or a charity of your choice.
