— James R. “Bob” Joyner, Jr., 87, of Corsicana went to be with our Lord on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014 in Corsicana surrounded by his family. He was born March 29, 1926 in Navarro County to Robert and Alyne Joyner.

He was a lifelong member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school for many years. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1944-1946 being stationed at the Naval Hospital in Guam. He will forever be remembered for his sense of humor, his loving spirit, and to many as “Sally.” He never met a stranger and had a love for life, his family, his Lord and the love of his life, Frances.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Alyne Joyner and a grandson, Mark Joyner, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Frances Slate Joyner; sons, Phil Joyner and wife Janis, Mark Joyner and wife Marji, and John Joyner and wife Carolyn; daughters, Bobbi Nesmith and Richard Ruiz and Juli Reeves and husband Scott; 11 grandchildren, Mandi Jones, Byron Joyner, Scott Joyner, Jeff Joyner, Jason Joyner, Candi Joyner, Danielle Glenn, Dylan Nesmith, Trey McDonald, and Tommy Cawthorn; 18 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

Memorial graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014 at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Diggs officiating. Interment with military honors will follow the service.

The Joyner family would like to express their profound thanks to the entire staff at Twilight Nursing Home for their compassionate care and attention, also to Cedar Lake Hospice for making this transition bearable.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
