Janice Berry Palmeri passed away on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 after a long battle with kidney failure.
She was born on June 16, 1929 in Dawson to Jim Berry and Marguerite Howard Berry.
She graduated from Corsicana High School in 1945 and attended Hill County Junior College. Janice also attended Navarro Junior College, where she was one of the “Barrack’s Bunch” and served as president of the Navarro College Ex-students’ Association.
Janice retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company with 40 years of service. She was a member of the Cedar Creek/Redbud Telephone Pioneer Club. She served as president of the Lone Star Chapter of AT&T Telcom Pioneers in Dallas and was voted Retired Pioneer of the Year in 1986. One of her most rewarding experiences was to serve on the Board of Directors for the Navarro County Disabled Citizens.
Janice was a member of the Kinsloe House until she became ill. She served as Manager Cateress for several years after she retired from the Bell Telephone. She loved cooking, collecting recipes and most of all her family.
Mrs. Palmeri was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Donald Palmeri.
She is survived by her sister, Peggy Berry Jordan and husband, Wesley of San Angelo; her brother-in-law Sam Palmeri and wife, Joann of Waco; special nephew and caregiver, Joe Palmeri; special niece and caregiver, Andra Miller; special friends and caregivers, Willie Carter and Jan Dover. Janice is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kingman, Dr. Shafik, Dr. Updegrove, Dr. Rodriguez, the staff at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village and Cedar Lake Hospice.
Visitation with the family was held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013 at Corley Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 at the Corley Funeral Home Chapel in Corsicana with Rev. Glenn Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe Palmeri, Bo Palmeri, Paul Smith, Mike Miller, Vic Miller, Frank Brown, and Jerry Putman. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Miller, Joe Borsellino, David Farrell, John Smith, Paul Ross, and members of the Southwestern Bell Telephone Pioneers.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation at 30 East 33rd Street, New York, New York 10016.
