Doris Christene Melton, 86, of Irving, died Thursday, March 28, 2013 in Lewisville.
Born on a white Christmas morning on her parents farm, Doris Christene Melton, “Tene” to her friends, came into the world. She had 11 brothers and sisters. She attended Frost High where she was a cheerleader. She married her best friend Syble's cousin while he was home on leave from World War II. She was 17 years old. Ethan and Christene were stationed in Charlotte, N.C. until the War was over. She was very homesick being away from her big family. They moved to Oak Cliff where their son David was born in 1949. Daughter Chrisanne followed in 1952. The family moved to Irving in 1953. Ethan and Christene both worked in Grand Prairie for LTV. Christene was a PBX operator at LTV. She later worked at Scotty Alluminum Products where she retired in 1991. Christene and Ethan lived in the same house on Lawrence Street for over 50 years. They attended Plymouth Park Baptist Church for five decades.
Christene will always be remembered for her good deeds. Always taking care of others, especially when they were sick, or their spirits were broken. She so loved her trips with her church JOY group. After she retired she traveled the country with her husband Ethan’s only brother, Big Irv, and his wife Jean. Christene loved to cook, laugh, play dominos, and had a passion for shopping. She so loved her Texas Rangers and Dallas Mavericks!
She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Ethan W. Melton.
She is survived by son, David Melton and wife Lucy; daughter Chrisanne and her Four Star Husband, Jeff Lanier; grandchildren, Kealey Melton, Casey Melton and his wife Natalie, Morgan Rochas and her husband Jaime Rochas; great-great grandchildren include Donovan, Kobe, Sydney and Presley. She is also survived by her brother, Ramsey Fields and his wife Joyce; and many other cousins and family members.
A special thanks to the wonderful women at Cimmaron House in Lewisville for all their love and care during her lengthy illness.
Funeral service is 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Plymouth Park Baptist Church, 1714 North Story Road, Irving, Texas 75061 with Pastor Ken Branam officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving.
