Alvin Brooks, 79, of Arlington passed away Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 at his residence in Arlington. He was born July 31, 1934 in Silver City, Texas to parents Andrew and Myrtle Brooks.
He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He was employed with the Arlington Independent School District in the maintenance department, and retired after 49 years and three months of service. After retirement he had a great love for gardening, and being outdoors. He was a member of Woods Chapel Baptist Church in Arlington.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Nell Brooks; parents, Andrew and Myrtle Brooks; sister, Vivie Thomas; and brothers, Ernest, Leonard Wade, Buddy, Merrell, and Willie Brooks.
He is survived by his sons, James Brooks and wife Mindy of Venus and Ronny Brooks and wife Kathy of Alvarado; nine Grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Charles Brooks of Mansfield; sisters, Adene Cumbie of Corsicana, Maudene Blackburn of Conroe, and Bonnie Fay Price of Bastrop.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2013 at Corley Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013 at the Corley Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Dresden Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Brooks, Christopher Brooks, Jonathan Brooks, Glenn Brooks, Wayne Burgdorf, and Dennis Jorgensen.
