Larry F. Houston

In the serenity of his home and with his wife by his side, Larry F. Houston was received into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on Aug. 7, 2010, after a one-year courageous struggle with cancer. Larry was a resident of Rockwall, and the youngest son of five children. In June of 2004, he married the love of his life and soul mate, Janet Jamison Houston.

Larry was born May 16, 1962, in Ottawa, Kan., and grew up in Dallas. He graduated from Nimitz High School in 1980 and began a lifelong, successful career in the concrete industry. Larry was a member of the First Baptist Church of Terrell, and served as a Sunday school teacher. Throughout his life, Larry was an avid hunter and within the last six years, he enjoyed playing the game of golf. He also loved his Dallas Cowboys. Larry was greatly admired and loved by all who knew him. He was a man of his word and highly respected by his family, co-workers, and friends. His love and loyalty toward Janet and his family were beyond words and certainly an example for others to follow. Larry’s heart was humble, and his walk with Jesus Christ was evident throughout his life. He will forever be remembered in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy of serving his Lord, as well as others, will continue in the lives of his children and grandchildren.

Larry is survived by his wife, Janet; father, Raymond Houston; mother, Rose Roden; daughter, Robin West and husband Joseph as well as his grandson, Hunter West; daughter, Christine Houston; step-daughter, Ashley Burns and husband Thomas, and granddaughter to be born in November; step-daughter, Meagan Durden and husband Jesse; brother, Jack Houston and wife Bonnie; sister, Irene Slawson and husband David; brother, Jerry Houston and wife Laura, and numerous nieces and nephews. Larry is preceded in death by his sister, Judy Houston, and step-father, Coy Roden.

The family expresses their appreciation to Dr. Joseph Ludwig of M.D. Anderson; Judy Candler of Baylor Health Center; Terri Branch of Vitas Hospice Care; Brad Boyd and David Levene of River Cities Sawing.

The service for Larry will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Clayton officiating.
