Gilbert Winston Sutherlin, 81, peacefully passed away at his home on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013. He was born on Nov. 8, 1932.
Gilbert Sutherlin was a very strong, hard-working man who began working as a house mover in 1948, and established his own business, known as Sutherlin House Moving — Leveling and Demolition. He moved many houses, building of all sizes and shapes in many different towns. It didn’t matter to him, he would move it! He was also a long-time member of the Texas Association of Structural Movers.
Within the last few months of his life, Gilbert Sutherlin accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and asked the Lord for forgiveness for each and every thing in his life that would keep him from making Heaven his Eternal Home.
We all loved him so very much. He was a strong, courageous man. We have learned so much from him, and we loved to sit around and listen to all of his stories and experiences, adventures he had to tell. And boy, did he have some to tell!He will be greatly missed, and always in our hearts and never forgotten.
Gilbert Sutherlin was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Sutherlin; his parents, Gilbert H. Sutherlin and Sarah Mildred Sutherlin; and a son, Gilbert “Buddy” Sutherlin.
He is survived by two sisters, Wyvonne and Joe Ivie of Corsicana and Delores and Glenn Prater of Corsicana; four daughters, Brenda and Wayman Bishop of Waxahachie, Rhonda Elam of Italy, Tina Helmberg of Anna, and Stacie and Ronnie Patterson of Corsicana; two sons, Steven and Brandi Sutherlin of Corsicana and Brad Ferguson of Corsicana. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, friends, and devoted friend and caregiver Margaret Ward.
The family thanks Family First Hospice, Dr. Shafik and all the nurses at the dialysis center for their loving care of Mr. Sutherlin.
A memorial service will be held in honor of Gilbert’s life and many memories at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013 at Calvary Worship Center, 1364 N. Beaton St., Corsicana.
