Jo Ann Stuard Purifoy

Jo Ann Stuard Purifoy, 77, of Corsicana  went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 8, 2013 at 7:55 a.m. at Baylor’s T. Boone Pickens Cancer Center after a six-year battle with Multi-Myeloma.

Jo was born Oct. 3, 1935 to R. W. Stuard and Minnie Mae Hill Stuard in Dalhart. She grew up in the Abilene area with her brother Jack Stuard and sister Janice Stuard Moore. After losing her mother in a car wreck, she was blessed with another mother, Mary Catherine Francis Stuard and sister Margaret Francis Brown and a brother Ed Francis.

She supported her husband through his education and ministry applying her talent as a chalk-talk artist while raising three children, Bruce Purifoy, Doyletta Purifoy Smith and Le Michelle Purifoy.

After retiring as Parish Secretary from St. John’s Episcopal church, she became a Shaklee Distributor, partnering again with her husband to assist others by providing products to support optimal health.

Jo was preceded in death by her mother, Minnie Mae Hill Stuard; father, R. W. Stuard and mother, Mary Catherine Francis Stuard all of Abilene.

She is survived by her husband, Everett Doyle Purifoy of Corsicana; children, Bruce Purifoy and his wife Denise of Arlington, Doyletta Jo Purifoy Smith with her husband Billy Frank of Arlington, and Le Michelle Purifoy of Corsicana; grandchildren Jason Purifoy with his wife Chelsea of Houston, Stephie Purifoy Cartwright with her husband Cody of Granbury, Stephen Purifoy of Arlington, Stuard McDuff Smith of Arlington and Kandice Michelle Smith of Arlington; great-grandchildren Jack Grayson Purifoy of Houston, Cohen Lee Cartwright of Granbury, and Aubree Rose Sebastin Purifoy of Arlington; siblings Jack Stuard with his wife Pat of Abilene, Janice Stuard Moore with husband Derrell of Minocqua, Wis., Margaret Francis Brown of Flint, and Ed Francis with his wife Sue of Hot Springs, Ark.

Jo wished to donate her body to medical science in hopes that although she did not win her fight against multi-myeloma others might win their struggles. She was accepted in to the Willed Body Program at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Memorial Service to be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Trinity Baptist Church.

In consideration of Jo’s wish to aid the fight of others, the family requests donations to the International Myeloma Foundation,, or the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
