Doug Walker of Corsicana went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, after a long fought battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 17, 1942, in Augusta, Kan., to Ernest and Inez Walker. He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1959 and served 20 honorable years. He served in the 1st Radio Battalion his entire career.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest N. Walker; daughter, Jackie Arnett; and grandson, Robert Arnett.
He is survived by his wife, Priscilla Walker of Corsicana; mother, Inez Walker of Augusta, Kan.; sons, Doug Walker Jr., of Talent, Ore., Jim Walker of Dallas, and Mike Walker of Waxahachie; daughters, Viv Summers of Fall River, Kan., Sally Smith and husband Mike of Fredonia, Kan., and Shawn Long of Pasadena, Texas; grandchildren, Lindsay and husband Ken McLean of El Dorado, Kan., Erica Cass of Coffeyville, Kan., Mark Simon of Bentonville, Ark., Katie Simon, Brandon Simon, Justin Roberts of Fredonia, Kan., James Walker Jr. of Eustace, David Walker of Wichita, Kan.; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Gwen O’Brien of Wichita, Kan., Ernestine and her husband Art Tenbrick of Wichita, Kan., and Sheryl and husband Jim Schaffer of Mountain Home, Ark.; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and church family and friends.
Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 4, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 5, at St. Luke United Methodist Church with Pastor Bruce Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow at Grange Hall Cemetery at Cryer Creek.
Pallbearers will be Jim Shaffer, Art Tenbrink, Kenneth McManua, Lewis Mathison, Roger Warner and Danny Townley. Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond Davidson, Don Massey, Terry Smith, Mark Simon, Brandon Simon, Justin Roberts, James Walker Jr. and David Walker.
