Sammy Illiff Shelton, 70, of Malakoff passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and children late in the evening on Friday, July 26, 2013 at Cedar Lake Nursing Home, where he has been cared for and loved for the last three years. Everyone that knew him loved his fun-loving and adventurous attitude, great sense of humor, and tell-it-like-it is personality. All who knew Sam knew that he truly lived life to the fullest, the way he wanted to live.
He was born May 25, 1943 in Malakoff to Illiff Virgil Shelton and Dorothy Dean Key. He graduated Malakoff High School in 1961 and attended Henderson County Junior College. He worked as a truck driver and spent his life as a cowboy. He loved fishing, hunting, and spending time with friends.
On Oct. 31, 1977 he married Barbara N. Henderson, the love of his life, and they have shared their hearts for almost 36 years.
He is preceded in death by his father and his brother, Royce W Shelton.
Survivors include his dedicated wife, Barbara N Shelton; daughter Tish and husband Eddie Barnes of Chandler; daughter Tanya and husband James MacKenzie of Okinawa, Japan; adopted son Charles Jason Franklin and wife Mary Ann of Corsicana; sister, Thesea Ann and husband Glen White of Tool; grandson, Justin T. Wheaton; grandchildren Gary, Tanya, Storm, and Zacky Barnes; grandchildren Alexis, Brady, and Trinity MacKenzie; grandchildren Micha and Kacee Franklin; great-grandchildren Matthew, Rainnie, Kristina, and Tyler Barnes.
A memorial celebration of Sam's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013 at VFW Post 4133, 305 Hwy. 31 East, Trinidad, TX 75163.
