Jerry Lee ‘Snake’ Morehead Sr.

Jerry Lee “Snake” Morehead Sr. passed away on Saturday evening, May 5, 2012, at his residence with his family at his side after a hard fought battle with lung cancer at the age of 58.

He was born in Corsicana on June 27, 1953, to Troy Lee Morehead and Katherine Poteet Morehead. He graduated from Corsicana High School in 1971 and married Vicki Bowden on Nov. 22, 1972, in Corsicana. He retired from Jetco Chemical where he worked as a lab technician. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to fish the local lakes and was a member of the Calvary Worship Center in Corsicana.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Katherine Morehead; and his best friend, Johnny Baker.

Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Vicki Bowden Morehead; their children, Hanna Morehead Phillips and husband David of Forney, and Jerry Morehead Jr. of Corsicana; grandchildren, Blake and Lanna Phillips and Eve Morehead. Survivors also include his sister, Barbara Kubicek and her husband Buddy of Barry, and Gary Morehead and his wife Linda of Corsicana; sisters-in-law, Angie Sterns and husband George of Johnson City, and Teri Clakley of Whitehouse; and a brother-in-law, Danny Bowden and wife Barbara of China Springs, and a number of extended family members.

Visitation was held 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2012, at Griffin - Roughton Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2012, in the Chapel at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home with Dr. Gary Johnson of Calvary Worship Center officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Curtis Reese, Johnny Farmer, Garland Bailey, Brian Phillips, Jason Alsap and Danny Bowden.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary Morehead, Jerry Morehead Jr., David Phillips, Blake Phillips, C-Nod Chenault, Buddy Kubicek and Otto Baker.
