Hazel McElvaney Godley

Hazel McElvaney Godley, 98, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, in Austin.

Born in Trinidad, Texas, on Sept. 14, 1915, Hazel spent her early years in and around Corsicana before moving to Baytown, where her husband G.A. was employed at Humble Oil, later to become Exxon-Mobil. Godley and continued living in Corsicana where she and A.G. were long time members of Northside Baptist Church.

After A.G.’s death in 2005, Hazel lived briefly with two of her sons before moving into an assisted living facility in Austin. In January 2012, Hazel moved into Southpark Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation home in Austin where she was living at the time of her death.

A loving mother and devoted wife, Hazel’s most enjoyable times were when she had her entire extended family around her on special occasions like birthdays and holidays.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Bertha Bond; her first husband, George A. McElvaney; her second husband, A.G. Godley; two sisters; and four brothers.
