— Hazel McElvaney Godley, 98, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, in Austin.

Born in Trinidad, Texas, on Sept. 14, 1915, Hazel spent her early years in and around Corsicana before moving to Baytown, where her husband G.A. was employed at Humble Oil, later to become Exxon-Mobil. Hazel and G.A. bought a home in Channelview where they raised their three sons. After retirement Hazel and G.A. returned to Corsicana where, in 1983, G.A. passed away. Hazel then married A.G. Godley and continued living in Corsicana where she and A.G. were long time members of Northside Baptist Church.

After A.G.’s death in 2005, Hazel lived briefly with two of her sons before moving into an assisted living facility in Austin. In January 2012, Hazel moved into Southpark Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation home in Austin where she was living at the time of her death.

A loving mother and devoted wife, Hazel’s most enjoyable times were when she had her entire extended family around her on special occasions like birthdays and holidays.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Bertha Bond; her first husband, George A. McElvaney; her second husband, A.G. Godley; two sisters; and four brothers.  

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Sandra McElvaney of Austin, Doyle and Deborah McElvaney of Missouri City, and Galen and Cindy McElvaney of Huntsville; step-daughter, Peggy and her husband Charles Dillard of Powell; grandsons, Jason and his wife Sarah McElvaney and their children William and Avery, Jeff and his wife Christy McElvaney, and Justin McElvaney; granddaughters, Cydney and her husband Curtis Lemons and their son Carson, Stacy and her husband Daniel McKee, Amanda Polk and her daughter Teela, and Leslee and her husband Joe Anderson and their children Grace and Heaton; and many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.

Visitation will be noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at Corley Funeral Home.  

Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana.
