James Parker, 94, of Roane went to be with the Lord Saturday, March 1, 2014. He passed away at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village in Corsicana after a brief illness. Mr Parker was born Feb. 26, 1920 in Novice, Texas. He attended school in Novice and Bronte and graduated from Ozona High School. He served in the Philippines in the U.S. Army - 1st Calvary Division during World War II. He married Martha Moriee Moore in Ozona on Jan. 19, 1946, after which they moved to Roane where he was a rancher.They had been married for 61 years at the time of her death in 2007 and were members of Roane Baptist Church where he served as deacon for many years.
James was preceded in death by his wife Martha Moriee Moore Parker, his parents David F. Parker and Clementena Kellett Parker, a step-mother Jen Louise Parker, two brothers, David A. Parker and J.B. Parker and step-sister Sara Tipton.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Jamie and W. Levon Thigpen of Dallas, Judy and Norton Conner of Kerens; granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Javon and C.A. “Slim” Durham of Parker, Lana and Jayson Engel of Kerens, JaeAyne and Fred C. Crabtree, Jr. of Forney, and Lindsey Conner of Kerens; great-grandchildren, Tripp, Sarah and Emma Durham of Parker, Tate and Ella Engel of Kerens, and Clare and LeAyne Crabtree of Forney; twin brother, Fred Parker of Stephenville; sister, Clementena Parker Hannah of Washington, D.C.; sister-in-law, Ann Parker of Sachse, numerous nieces, nephews and friends, and Elpidio Armijo, a faithful ranch worker and friend for over 30 years.
Visitation will be Monday, March 3, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Russell Reed officiating.
Pallbearers will be Buster Atkeisson, Bobby Bain, Phillip Ivie, John Matous, Carroll Moran and Phil Posey.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Heritage Oaks Retirement Village of Corsicana for their love and care of James since August 2012. They would also like to thank Dr. R.L. Rodriguez and the staff at Hand-in-Hand Hospice.
