Willard “Bill” Mayo passed away Monday, April 14, 2014 in Dallas.
Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather who valued his relationships with God, family and friends. He was born and raised in Kerens on Nov. 27, 1925; served in the Air Force, was honorably discharged Dec. 27, 1948; graduated with his engineering degree (BSME) from UT-Austin in 1953; married Dorothy Jane Jeffreys in June 1951; worked and lived in Arlington for several years during which two daughters were born.
In 1961, Bill accepted a position with Stewart Engineering (now known as Stewart Systems) and moved his family to Dallas. They became active at Lake Highlands Baptist Church; he taught junior high boys in Sunday School, worked with 4th-6th graders in Training Union, and served as a deacon for many years.
Following the death of his wife in 1984, he married Ola Maye Johnston in October 1986. After 30 years at Stewart Systems he retired in 1991. Rather than a gold watch, he received a beautiful grandfather clock!
Following his retirement Bill and Maye returned to their hometown of Kerens to live. Both enjoyed working in their beautiful yard and garden. Friends and family were always welcomed and delicious meals were enjoyed by all!
Two years ago, they moved to Buffalo Creek Assisted Living in Waxahachie.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Ola Maye Mayo of Waxahachie; daughters Linda Womack of Wauwatosa, WI and Melissa Mayo of Allen; son Don Johnston of Midlothian; grandchildren Joanna Neff of Milwaukee, WI, Jon Paul Durnen of Garland, Rhett Johnston of Belton, Hope Rangel of Midlothian, and Justin Johnston of Midlothian.
A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association of Greater Dallas, 4144 N. Central Expressway, Suite 750, Dallas Texas 75204, or online at ALZ.org.
