— Ora Lee Bonner went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Country Meadows Nursing Home in Corsicana at the age of 93. She was born in Corsicana on Jan. 3, 1920 to the late Henry Bentley and Velma Washburn Bentley. She attended Corsicana schools and graduated Corsicana High School, class of 1940.

Ora Lee was one of the first women from Navarro County to join the Navy Waves. She served during World War II as a Yeoman in the submarine training facility in Chicago. Ora Lee was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1945 and returned to the Corsicana area, where she lived and worked the remainder of her life.

Ora Lee was Office Manager at Texas Miller Products (Hat Factory) in Corsicana, having helped open the business when it was first established in Corsicana and retired after having worked there 40-plus years.

Ora Lee wed Clarence D. Bonner on July 7, 1948, and they made their home first in Angus and then Eureka for the past 52 years. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage.

Ora Lee was a long time member of First Baptist church in Corsicana and was a Sunday School teacher for many years in the Senior Adult area. She also was one of the first members of the Solid Rockers choir and enjoyed traveling with the group and singing praises to her Lord.

Ora Lee also loved to travel. She wanted to see as much of God's wonderful creation as possible and meet as many people and make friends everywhere she went.

Ora Lee is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Etha Hand and Norma Thomason, brother Hubert Bentley, sons Larry Gene Bonner and two stillborn sons, sister-in-law Ethelyn Stokes, brother and sister-in-law Lawrence Bonner and wife Martha, brothers-in-law Freddie Bonner, James Thomason and Jack Bartholomew.

She is survived by her husband Clarence Bonner of Eureka, daughter Bonnie McNeeley and husband Bobby of Eureka, grandson Terry McNeeley and wife Marie of McKinney, granddaughter Regina Rogers and husband William of Tehuacana. Ora Lee is also survived by great-granddaughers Alex Garcia of Tehuacana and Chloe McNeeley of McKinney, sisters-in-law Lorene McBride and husband Mac (W.E.), and Doris Bonner all of Corsicana, brother-in-law Cliff Thomason of Palestine as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Country Meadows Nursing Home for the loving care that they gave Ora Lee the past seven months and the kindness they demonstrated to her family. They showed true concern and compassion as well as commitment to making Ora Lee's stay as comfortable as possible and showed that they were doing more than just "their job."

The family also wishes to thank her very special roommate Paulette Johnson, who was so much more than just a roommate to Ora Lee, and who gave of herself, watched over Ora Lee and loved her like a sister, making Ora Lee's last few months so much more pleasant and meaningful.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2013 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Chapel with Rev. Danny Reeves and Rev. B.F. Risinger Jr. officiating. There will be no graveside service. Interment will be at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.
