Henry Gene Holland went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at his Cedar Creek home in Trinidad.
He was born to Lucy Smith Holland and William E. Holland on Dec. 15, 1933, in Dallas. As a young man, Gene excelled at all sports and later enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery and golf. He proudly served in the Marine Corp. during the Korean Conflict.
During his life he lived in many states across the country and worked developing and installing communication systems as a liaison to the military, including projects for SAC, NORAD, the Pentagon and NASA. He was active in his church and served as a Communion minister visiting shut-ins and the elderly. He felt his most important mission in life was his Christian faith and accepting Jesus Christ as his savior. He was very civic-minded, devoting much of his time to Henderson County and his community.
He loved his family, extended family and friends. He most cherished his children and grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to brag on them.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Lucy; father, William; brother, Bill; sisters, Grace and Francis.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; son, Russell; daughter, Debra; and grandsons, Daniel, Coy, Cody and Cooper; niece, Brenda; and cousin June.
Memorial Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at Cedar Creek United Methodist Church at 100 S. Old Indian Trail in Tool.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to one of the following: Wounded Warriors, the American Cancer Society, or the Community Food Pantry c/o CC United Methodist Church.
