Jack Clarence Hensley went to celebrate his 83rd birthday with Jesus on Sunday, March 9, 2014. He passed away at his home in Barry after a long illness. Jack was born on March 9, 1931 to Nicholas and Alice Stacy-Hensley in Hazard, Kentucky. His family moved to Los Angeles area when he was 5 years old to be closer to his older siblings. Jack was a long-time member of the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints across the nation. Jack married Alberta Denny on Aug. 4, 1950 and had eight children. They spent their married life in California and Missouri, traveling with his young family with the construction business. Jack was a master carpenter, contractor who passed his love of building to his sons. He later returned to California where he resided with his son Dana and family until 1992. In 1992, Jack moved to Enid, Okla. to be closer to son Marshall and daughter Michelle and daughter Jen Bush. He then moved to Navarro county with his son Marshall and daughter-in-law Michelle, grandchildren Cyndi, Nicole, Stephanie and Jonathan Hensley. He has resided in Barry, in the home that he and son Marshall built where he enjoyed the beauty of God's work every spring when the bluebonnets bloomed in the fields around their home. He lived the last 14 years of his life with his daughter-in-law Michelle and husband Michael Larry Ball. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
He was preceded in death by his father Nicholas Hensley, mother Alice Stacy-Hensley, son Robert Hensley, son Marshall Hensley, daughter Christina Hensley Wilson and granddaughter Yvonne Gividen, brothers Morgan, Ira, Elijah, Nicholas, Carl and James, sisters Mallie, Betty, Florence, and Dixie.
He is survived by his children, Jack Jr. and wife Chris of Canton, Ohio; son Dana and wife Debbie of Elmira, N.Y.; daughter Jen Bush and husband Ken of Ponca City, Okla.; daughter Cheryl Merhoff of Wisconsin; daughter Shelly Duff of Missouri; daughter-in-law Michelle Ball and husband Michael Ball of the home.
Jack leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren across the United States and many other loved ones, dear friends and adopted grandchildren. The family would like to express special thanks to friends Loyde and Pam Junkin of Palmer, Angels at Home, Corsicana and Cedar Lake Hospice of Corsicana. Without these true angels of mercy Jack would not have been able to have final wishes of being at home when he went to meet his Heavenly Father.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
The funeral, memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home Chapel, presided by Elder Zackery Herrin of the Latter Day Saint Church. Pallbearers will be Sterling Johnson, grandson-in-law; Loyde Junkin, Russell Warren, Jonathan Hensley, grandson; Dale Jordan, Mike Ball. Honorary pallbearers will be George Gividen IV, grandson; Andrew Lewis, Johnny Matthews, Austin Sellers.
Memorials may be made in memory of Jack to Latter Day Saints Church, Angels at Home and Cedar Lake Hospice.
