Robbie Nell Brown Carr

The Angel of Silence answered the call of Robbie Nell Brown Carr on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013 at Vitas Hospice, Irving, and united her with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Ending her life here on earth at age 74, and giving her a new beginning of a life everlasting with her Father in heaven. She was born in the Drane Community in Navarro County, Texas on April 11, 1939 to L. C. Brown and Robbie Townsel Brown. Her father preceded her in death. She met and married Dan Carr, Jr. he preceded her in death.

 Robbie received her formal education in the Dawson School District at G.W. Carver, and graduated High School at G. W. Carver. She went off to college after high school to Butler College in Tyler, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree. She furthered her studies at Prairie View A&M University where she received a Master of Education Degree.

 She was a dedicated and devoted educator, spending countless hours preparing engaging lessons for her students. She began her teaching career in 1960 in Ennis, and also taught school at the G. W. Carver High School in Dawson. After moving to Dallas in 1965 she was employed in the Personnel Department at Bishop College (1965-1967) and continued her teaching from 1967-1971 at the James Madison High School; (1971-1972) at the W.W. Samuel High School; and from 1972 until her retirement at the W. H. Adamson High School. She was a member of several city and state teacher organizations, including the Texas State Teachers Association, Class Room Teacher of Dallas, Dallas Office Education of Teachers, American Vocational Association, Prairie View Alumni Association, the G. W. Carver Alumni, and the South Dallas Business and Professional Women. Robbie’s teaching career spanned over 45 years teaching in the Dallas Independent School District and Dawson School District. She was a source of guidance and inspiration to many. To her students she was ever remembered for her affectionate but stern nature.

 Robbie came to know the Lord at a young age at the Love Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Corsicana, serving in many capacities to include singing in the choir and  Oratorical Speaker. After moving to Dallas, she united with the Greater Memorial Missionary Baptist Church in 1969 under the leadership of the late Rev. G. W. Sneed.  She remained a faithful and active member of the Greater Memorial Seasoned Saints. Robbie was blessed with many talents and gifts to include, a singer, speaker, writer, teacher and counselor. She was a friend to all with a “BIG HEART.”

 Survivors include: Her loving mother, Robbie Bailey of Corsicana; special loving companion of 32 years, Bobby Spring of Dallas; two brothers, James Brown (Eloise) of Stockton, Calif., L. C. Brown, Jr. (Martha) of Corsicana; five sisters, Bobbie D. Jackson (N. J.), Sandra Pitts (John), Ethel Mitchell (Willie) all of Corsicana, Rosel Story (Don) of Stockton, Calif., and Vanessa Skinner (Vernon) of Dallas; several nieces and nephews including Jennifer Azua, Jackie Garrett III, Zealand McFadden, Leonard Brown and Tiffany Sneed; great nieces and nephews; cousins, other relatives and friends and the Greater Memorial and Love Chapel Church Family.

Visitation will be 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2013 at Ross and Johnson Mortuary Chapel.     

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013 at Greater Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, located at 2022 Hudspeth Avenue, Dallas, Texas with Pastor Danny Cox and Pastor David E. Wilson officiating.  Interment will follow at Woodland Memorial Park.  The G. W. Carver Alumni will serve as Pallbearers.
