Jewel Mae Combs Fletcher, 91, of Naples Texas, formerly of Kerens, passed away Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014 at Titus Regional Medical Hospital in Mt. Pleasant. She was born Dec. 22, 1922 in the Rural Shade community, south of Kerens, to Thomas Larry Combs and Nellie Ora Boss Combs. She attended school in the Rural Shade school. Jewel married William A. “Bill” Fletcher on March 4, 1944 in Kerens. She loved to cook and sew and care for her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Round Prairie Baptist Church. She also served as secretary of the VFW in Gun Barrel City for several years.
She is survived by her son, Larry and wife M. Elizabeth Fletcher of Flower Mound, one daughter Barbara Jenelle Baugh and husband Earnest of Naples, Texas. She is also survived by sister-in-law Janie Combs of Waco; four grandchildren, 11 great-granchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Fletcher; five brothers, Homer Combs, Clyde Combs, Tom B. Combs, Clifton Combs, and Burtis Combs.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014 at Paschal Funeral Home in Kerens.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014 at Paschal Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Upchurch officiating. Burial will follow in Kerens City Cemetery.
