Dickie L. Mullenix

Dickie L. Mullenix, 57, of Corsicana passed away Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 30, 1956 in Corsicana to Guy and Dorothy Louise Baggett Mullenix.

Mullenix was a Corsicana Firefighter for 32 years before retiring as a lieutenant in 2012. Known for his outgoing charm and soft heart, Mullenix worked for the city for 35 years, three of it with the water treatment plant, before transferring to the fire department. Co-workers and friends alike all agreed Mullenix was a great guy with a huge heart.

Mullinex was involved in the community both through the toy drive he led for years, and from doing fire safety programs at local schools. He passed out stickers and advised children on “drop and roll,” for decades.

After retirement, Mullenix took it easy, enjoying his hobbies of antique sign and car collecting. His flock of hobby chickens became a flock of hobby pigeons, something he just enjoyed tending. He also enjoyed playing golf at the Oak Trail golf course.

Jerry Smithey knew Mullenix for more than 30 years, working with him through long shifts and car accidents, fires and rescues. Mullenix was one of those firefighters who would teach the younger men the ropes with a generous heart, Smithey said. He was known as a great guy with whom to work.

Mullenix was also fun when the alarms weren’t going off. He had a great sense of humor, and knew how to keep the others laughing, even during times of boredom, Smithey said. He could deal with young kids, elderly people, it didn’t matter. He was an excellent communicator with the public. Everybody liked him. He was a people person.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his sister, Ginger Kay Mullenix of Corsicana; aunt, Ruth Wilcox and husband Gene of Ennis; uncle, John Baggett of Seattle, WA; cousins, Suzanne Martin and husband Glen of San Antonio, Karen Fanous and husband Ziad of Round Rock, Lisa Noble and husband Bart of Dallas, David Brown and wife Melinda of Ennis, Debbie Peveto and husband Robert of Tyler, Kathy Wilson of Texarkana, and Bruce Gillen of Corsicana.

Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Corley Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Corley Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Danny P. Reeves officiating.

Pallbearers will be Ricki Crenshaw, Jerry Smithey, Bill Stovall, and Darren Yates.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Corsicana Firefighter’s Association, P.O. Box 83, Corsicana, Texas 75110.
