Corsicana —

Charles Leslie Calame, 74, of Wortham passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at his home. Mr. Calame was born Dec. 13, 1938 in Fairfield to Charles Edward Calame and Edith Louella McAdams Calame.  He married the love of his life, Dorothy Keathley, in Wortham on July 31, 1959.

Charles was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Wortham, serving actively as a deacon and member of the Anglers Sunday School class.  He truly lived out Romans 1:16; “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ; for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth”, and proclaimed it to anyone he met.

He was a lifelong resident of Wortham, graduating from Wortham High School in 1957. Charles worked for Chattanooga Glass Company, and was then employed by Getty-Texaco until he retired in 1999. During the years 1957-1965, Charles served his country in the Army National Guard.

Charles was an avid fisherman, hunter, “42” player and gardener, sharing his bountiful produce with family, friends and neighbors. He was a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and a dear, helping friend to all. He especially loved the little children and spent many happy hours with all who came his way.

He was preceded in death by his parents and also his daughter, Lanette in 1982.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; daughters, Pam Calame of Wortham and Judy Chilcoat and husband, Mark of Georgetown; his granddaughters, Annie Dean and husband, Dustin of College Station, Madison Van Der Kroon of Wortham; grandson, Blake Chilcoat of College Station; and great-granddaughter, “Charli” Claire Dean, his namesake, who will arrive in July. He is also survived by three brothers, Jerry and wife Jenny Calame, Jesse Calame and Tony Calame, all of Wortham; three sisters, Glenda Neese of Wortham, Elizabeth Lucas and husband, Thomas of Corsicana and Nelda Mullenax of Kirvin; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and good friends.

Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church in Wortham from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2013.

Funeral Services for Charles will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Wortham, with Bro. Justin Colquette and James Herrington officiating.  Interment will follow at Wortham Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are Mack Butler, Benny Murray, Larry Jones, Jon R. Jones, Dwayne Calame, Pat Gormon, Brad McReynolds and Gene Mackey.  Honorary pallbearers are the Deacons of the First Baptist Church of Wortham.
