S.A. Mink, Jr. (Pappy), 91 of Corsicana, formerly of Terrell, joined his Lord and Savior Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014. He was born Feb. 4, 1923 to Sola and Lucille Wesson Mink in the New Salem Community. He was the youngest of three children, looking up to older siblings Porter and Fern.
As a young man, S. A. proudly served his nation by joining the United States Navy Sea Bees in 1942. He was assigned to the 4th Special Naval Construction Battalion. He served in the Pacific theater and was at Okinawa and Guadal Canal. He was honorably discharged in the fall of 1945. Soon after returning home, he married his sweetheart Aline Turner on Nov. 19, 1945 making their home in Terrell.
He worked for Hairston Produce/Wyatt Distribution in Dallas and retired 42 years later in 1985. S.A. (Pappy) was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time on the 4MRanch raising his American Quarter Horses. He also enjoyed fishing, tending to his animals, and playing with his granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
S.A. was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, in-laws, and his wife of 62 years.
Survivors include: Daughter Carol Ann Orler and husband James of Corsicana; son Larry Eugene and wife Mary Ann of Houston; granddaughters Jayme Carol Grounds and husband Stephen of Fairfield; Sarah K. Troyer and husband Brandon of Lorena; and Shannan Lynn Johnson of Lindale; great –grandchildren Brittney Troyer, Alyson Johnson, Colton Vance, Ryan Grounds, Corey Vance, Katy Grounds, and Nicole Johnson. Other survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Tyson Barnes, Amazing Grace Home Health Care, Mercy Hospice and the wonderful, loving staff of Twilight Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Corsicana.
Visitation services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 at Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral Home in Terrell.
