Johnnie Mae Ballard, 82, of Corsicana, passed away Friday, Oct. 18, 2013 at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village.
Johnnie Mae Ballard, affectionately known as Mommae, was born Jan. 19, 1931 to the parents of Leon Watson and Mildred Williams in Nacogdoches. She later moved to Corsicana where she met and married William Ballard, Jr. To this union were born four wonderful children.
For several years Johnnie worked in healthcare as a provider. She also worked for Collin Street Bakery and Mobile Pipeline. At the age of 78, she retired from the Navarro County Courthouse after 26 years of employment.
Johnnie was an active member of the Eastside Church of Christ, where she was a member of the Ladies Bible Class, Sunday School Class and the clothing ministry.
She is preceded in death by her former husband, William Ballard, Jr.; mother, Mildred Williams; father, Leon Watson; brother, Nathaniel Dewberry; and two sisters, Margaret Harvey and Lilly Mae McDonald.
Left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Sharon Ballard of Corsicana; three sons, William Ballard, III and wife Chana, of Corsicana, Larry Joe Ballard, Sr. of Corsicana, and Willie Gary Ballard and wife Cynthia of Ennis; grandchildren, Shawnda Witherspoon and husband Robert of Corsicana; Tracy Barton of Corsicana; Rodney Ballard and wife Sherrie of Lewisville; Larry Ballard, Jr. and wife Amy of Lewisville; Raychaun Ballard and wife Samara of Mildred; William Ballard IV of Corsicana; Sonyetta Harrison of Corsicana; Candice Ballard of Corsicana; Kimberly Mason of Corsicana; Chris Ballard of Ennis; Eric Griffin and wife Temique of Ennis; Deonte Thomas and Andrew Thomas of Corsicana; step-mother, Mama Lois Watson of Tyler; four sisters, Gussie Jessie and husband Lucion of Corsicana; Myrtle Lee Brown, Doretha Davis, Gwendolyn Price and husband Ernest, all of Tyler; four brothers, Leon Watson, Jr., Frank Wayne Watson and wife Emma, Jerry Don Watson and wife Evelyn, Randall Ray Watson and wife Vicki, all of Tyler; sister-in-law, Ada Faye Hawkins of Dallas; church grandmother, Mrs. Annie Bell Jones of Corsicana; 22 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Funeral services are 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013 at the Eastside Church Of Christ located at 906 East 13th Avenue. Interment will follow at Woodland Memorial Park. Arrangements by Ross and Johnson Mortuary.
