Henry A. Grimmett

Henry A. Grimmett, a native of Barry but long-time San Antonio resident, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 at his home following an extended illness. He was 71.

A memorial service will be conducted at a later date at Fort Sam Houston cemetery.

Mr. Grimmett was valedictorian of the 1960 Blooming Grove High School but his earlier schooling was at Barry High School, which consolidated in 1958 with the Blooming Grove Independent School District. He was active in sports and literary events at Barry and Blooming Grove High Schools. He was a 1962 honors graduate of Navarro College.

As a youth, Mr. Grimmett was actrive in the Barry Baptist Church and participated in many Baptist Training Union activities.

He studied accounting at the University of Houston. Later, Mr. Grimmett joined the U.S. Air Force where he served with distinction for four years. After his military service, he became a Field Service Representative with the American Red Cross, spending several years with that organization in Vietnam during the height of that conflict.

Henry joined the workforce of Waukesha-Pearce in Houston and would later transfer to San Antonio. He retired in 2011 because of medical conditions after working 38 years for that company as a service administrative assistant.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Grace Grimmett, pioneer farmers at Barry; a sister, Mrs. Helen L. Sanders, also of San Antonio; and brothers, Eugene D. Grimmett of Salem, Ky. and James W. “Jimmy” Grimmett of San Antonio.

Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Letha Tanner of  San Antonio; two brothers, Alfred M. Grimmett of Pasadena and Richard C. Grimmett of Austin; one step-son, Michael Teague; and a host of Navarro County relatives.
