— Wardell Black passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013 in Ennis. He was born to George and Inez (Monk) Anderson Black on June 20, 1927 in Round Prairie Community in Kerens.

Mr. Black is one of the founders of Calvary Baptist Church, serving in many postions. He served as Finance Chairman, a Trustee, Deacon, male chorus and lawn maintenance for the church. He worked for Wolf Brand Chili for 32 years, and Cresline Plastic Pipes for 15 years and retired in February 2001. He served in the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1952. He was a foster parent for 14 children and later adopted one, a son.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, J.D., Theophilus, Vernell, Clifton, William and James Curtis Black; two sisters, Georgia L. Black Jones and Hazel Faye Black Robinson.

He is survived by a devoted and loving wife of 61 years, Jean Polk Black of Corsicana; son Will (Donnetta) Wilborn Sr; adopted son Joshua Patrick Bell Black Sr.; four grandsons Will Wilborn Jr., Nicklas Wilborn of Corsicana, Oshjuar'e  Patrick Black of Keller, Joshua Patrick Dell Black, Jr. of Lancaster; two granddaughters, and one great-granddaughter; special God-daughters Darlean Brewer of Arlington, and Rhea Sheree Portis of Dallas; devoted daughter-in-law Loyce Wilborn of Corsicana; sisters Betty Jean Black (Thomas) Walter of Fort Worth; aunt Willie Mae Black Bradley of San Angelo; special nieces Renee Black of Montclair, Calif. and Sherrie Black of Ennis; nephews Keith Black and La Prince Black of Ennis, and many other nephews; sisters-in-law Katherine Watts, Bertha Ford, Velma (Rev. Thomas)Walter and Vinie Elias and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 12 noon to 8 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2013 at M.R Smith Parlor for Funerals.

Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013 Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Leon Tates and Bishop William Lewis officiating.

Pallbearers will be Bro. Lance Shaw, Bro. Stanley Jennings, Lynn Walter, Ken Walter, Keith Black, Everett Polk and other nephews.

Interment will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Dallas - Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas.
