Ronnie Earl Ogburn

Ronnie Earl Ogburn, 63, of Corsicana went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 surrounded by his loved ones. Ronnie was a lifelong resident of Navarro County and was born Aug. 31, 1949 to Earl and Gladys Ogburn in Corsicana. He was happily married to the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Cathy Jean Ogburn for almost 43 years. He attended Roane School and Corsicana High School, graduating in 1968. He was a member of Roane Baptist Church. Ronnie attended Navarro College and was a paratrooper in the National Guard from 1971 to 1978. He recently retired after 32 years of working as a heavy equipment operator at Big Brown Mine.

He loved people, but especially children of all ages. He was a wonderful father and encouraged his children to cherish one another and hold each other dear since he had lost his only brother Gary at a young age. He was a very special Papa to his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them on a daily basis, riding horses, checking cows or just riding them around on the “scooter.” He was the best uncle ever to his nieces and nephews, always lifting them up and making them feel special and playfully teasing them whenever he could. Whether he was taking them to the lake, teaching them to ski, playing pool, or just hanging out, he enriched all of their lives. Due to his love for children, the family requests donations be made to James L. Collins Catholic School where his granddaughters attend or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Ronnie had the spiritual gift of ‘helps’ and would always lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He enjoyed working on the ranch with Ronnie Dale and Russell. Ronnie was everyone's dance partner and enjoyed listening to music, especially the live music of family. He loved family gatherings and hanging out with his friends. He had a knack for giving friends and family nicknames that stuck. He never met a stranger and had a way of making all who knew him feel 10 feet tall.

He lived life to the fullest and enjoyed traveling with Cathy, family, and friends. He loved the outdoors and was especially fond of camping, boating, skiing, tubing the river, riding his Harley, hunting, trapping hogs, roping, horseback riding, and going to the horse races.

He had an infectious bright energy that he spread to others and a wonderful sense of humor and will be missed by all who knew him. “Creek People Unite!”

Ronnie is celebrating in heaven with his beloved mother, Gladys Coffey Ogburn, and his younger brother, Gary Eugene Ogburn.

Waiting to reunite with him are his wife Cathy; father Earl; children, Ronnie Dale, Kim, Russell, and Lacey; grandchildren, Colton, Alexys, Lucille (Goose), and Lillian (Bean). Also waiting to see him again are many family and friends too numerous to list.

John Teel and Russell Reed officiated the memorial service at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at 3 p.m.

Visitation was from 1 to  3 p.m. prior to services. Honorary Pallbearers were Colton Ogburn, Randy Jenkins, Edwin Scruggs, Wayne McClure, Ricky Lancaster, Paul Baggett, Wayne Tlustos, and William Mulkey.

The Ogburn family would like to express their gratitude for all the prayers, words of encouragement, and support.

Memorials can be made to James L. Collins Catholic School (3000 W. Hwy. 22, Corsicana, TX 75110) or to the Ronnie Ogburn Tribute Account #33450519 at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
