Valara Gaile Shaw, 89, of Corsicana passed from this life and went home to be with God. She passed away Friday, April 26, 2013, at her home in Corsicana.
Mrs. Shaw was born Dec. 24, 1923, in Wynnewood, Okla., to Elbert Gaile and Bertha Ensey Gaile. She grew up in a one-room home where she and her brothers and sister all helped her parents farm on their small land. She was Valedictorian in her high school. Her husband, Robert Shaw, was both an ordained Methodist and Baptist minister; she married him in 1946. She moved with her husband and two children, Ronald and Delora, to Corsicana in 1967. She earned a Masters degree and teaching certificate, and taught eighth grade English at Collins Middle School for 27 years until her retirement. She spent the rest of her life homeschooling her granddaughter until her passing. She always had a very strong belief in God and helped many children turn their lives around. She was loved and respected by many. She will be missed, but she is free of suffering and in Heaven singing with Jesus and the angels.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, the Rev. Robert Shaw; and brothers, Olier Gaile and Jack Gaile.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Delora and Rick Harding; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Lee and Carolyn Shaw; grandchildren, Richard Harding and Heather Shaw; sister, Geneva Parker and husband Glen; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
