Johnnie Leon Aven, 92, of Corsicana passed away Friday, March 7, 2014 at Sterling House in Corsicana. He was born June 27, 1921 in Roane to John Cleveland and Ollie Blanche Buchanan Aven.
Mr. Aven was an avid farmer in Powell and it has been said that he was always working (and working faster than anyone else). After retiring from farming, he loved to travel and to play dominoes with friends. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II spending some of his enlistment time in Iceland. He enlisted as a Private and was discharged as a Sergeant.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Genell, his parents, and also his siblings; Hazel Ragland, Helen Featherston, and Billy Gene Aven.
Mr. Aven is survived by his son Jackie G. Aven and wife, Jerry Ann of Houston; his grandchildren, Tammy Rea and husband , Don; Tracey Allen and husband Tony; Anisa Aven; and Chance G. Aven and wife Kimberly all of Houston. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, his sister, Ruby Holloway of Mexia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2014 at Corley Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Corley Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Rick Lamb officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Chance Aven, Cole Taylor, Rick Holloway, Gary Gober, Ken French and Jackie Farmer.
